You tell me, quietly driving to work, smell of burning car falters and stops, smoke from under the bonnet, sat there thinking for a millisecond, grabbed fire extinguisher, opened bonnet (everyone says don't do that, how do I use fire extinguisher), emptied fire extinguisher to no avail, shut bonnet, dialled 999, waited for fire brigade and watched my car burn, luckily??? I was only a couple of miles from Sale Fire Station. I can't believe I never thought to take a photo with my phone. Oh rang work to say I might be a bit late.

Cause ??? nothing much left under bonnet to give a clue possibly fuel pipe or short circuit, insurance took 3 months to pay out, then I got the 45

Yeah the insurance assessor said it was a rare occurance but it does happen, thanks for the interest. Those 16" hairpins look nice on your 400, I'm thinking along the lines of 17" straights for my 45.

Only me in the car, just had to stand and watch it burn, fire brigade had it out really quickly. Oh my lucky hedgehog mascot did suffer from smoke inhalation. Thanks for the concern and comments.

Crikey. Glad know one was harmed. How many miles had it done?

I would say that if the engine cut out and then you could smell burning, that it was something to do with the fuel line.
